So it’s been just over 2 weeks since I started training at The Athlete Centre in Oxford and I can honestly say it’s such a motivational and inspiring place to train. I would say the gym is a proper gym! I love the fact that everyone there actually trains hard! If you’re into weights, cross fit and strength work, I really don’t think you could go anywhere better. In terms of my training, the coaches have been excellent, so encouraging, helpful, inspiring and really feel like they want to get the best out of me. So far I have attended the Cross fit, strength and Olympic lifting sessions. I’ve got to say I absolutely love Cross fit! Those of you who know me, know that I have always loved doing circuit sessions and I would say Cross fit is advancement on this type of session; it focuses on a variety of different high intensity intervals combining strength work, Olympic lifting, plyometrics, gymnastics, powerlifting, running and other various other exercises. During the sessions you complete the WOD’s (workout of the day) and this is where you can  push yourself to the max. It’s competitive, challenging and rewarding, pretty much all my favorite things.

I feel like the strength sessions I have been too are really effective too. These sessions tend to work on strengthening exercises targeting specific muscle groups.

I have got to say when attending my first Olympic lifting session, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, and in all honesty, it’s a hell of a lot harder than I thought! I’ve been to 4 sessions now and I can safely say that I am still trying to get to grips with the technique; I think it will take time!

Anyway, I feel incredibly lucky to be training at this gym with so many fantastic coaches, athletes and brilliant facilities. I think if you love training and are ready to challenge yourself this place is definitely for you and you must try out crossfit 😀
